Six Awesome Child Friendly Cafés In Brisbane

Going out for coffee…and perhaps a sneaky piece of cake, is one of life’s simple pleasures. For new parents though, the idea of taking bub out to a café might seem a little overwhelming, especially if you’re worried about how child-friendly a café might be.

But if anyone needs some time out of the house it’s new parents! Whether it’s for the hit of caffeine or just to get back out into the real world, making a little time for yourself is especially important in the first 6 months of your baby’s life. And there are plenty of baby and child-friendly cafes that can make going out for coffee with your baby a pleasurable experience – you may just need to search for them.

Being a family-oriented city, Brisbane parents are especially lucky! Most cafés are very welcoming of families with many geared towards babies and young children in particular. Here are six of my favourites that are well worth a visit if you fancy a little time out and a great cup of coffee!

Chapter IV, Paddington

Chapter VI coffee shop This place is well known as one of Brisbane’s bestchild-friendly cafés. A funky playroom just for kids, plenty of indoor pram parking plus tantalising menus for adults and small people alike, Chapter IV is definitely worth the visit. Oh, the coffee is great too!

Birds & Bees Café, Everton Hills

Waffles with chocolate, strawberries and ice-cream from Birds & Bees CaféDon’t be alarmed…we are not starting THAT conversation with your kids just yet! Instead, this café offers a dedicated and fully fenced area just for small people complete with artificial grass and plenty of chalk boards, paper and pencils to keep budding artists very happy. A fabulous menu for parents along with tried and tested favourites for kids provides the full package. Staff are wonderfully welcoming and even put on school holiday craft and story telling just so parents can get that well earned break!

Bruno’s BNE, Tarragindi

Brunos café As one of Brisbane’s newer cafés, Bruno’s BNE has a lot to offer parents! With a family-friendly vibe, you can enjoy amazing coffee while the kids are kept happy with a great selection of kid-size milkshakes, hot chocolate and locally-sourced kids meals. The café is light, airy, has plenty of highchairs and parking for prams and is adjacent to both a playground and dog park which will keep the whole family happy after you’re done.

Carport Café, Cannon Hill

Carport café and gallery garden area This hidden gem of a café is set in a garden oasis and caters especially well for your little people! Kids-size tables and chairs, a tasty children’s menu and well-stocked toy box are sure to keep the kids happy while you indulge. And with comfy chairs, fantastic service and coffee that is a little out of the ordinary (dash of chilli anyone?), this child-friendly café will have you coming back for sure!

Willow & Spoon, Wilston

Willow and spoon café With a beautiful outdoor garden space for play and laughter, this café is one to visit with your kids! The children’s menu is flexible to cater for fussy eaters while the adult one offers an exciting, if not slightly exotic, variety of meals. And with wonderful, gracious staff members who are not at all worried by those guaranteed spillages, what more could you ask for when going out for a quiet coffee?

 Queen’s Park Café, Ipswich

Queens park cafe Now for anyone prepared to go west, just 40 minutes from the Brisbane CBD, you’ll find the beautiful regional city of Ipswich along with the Queen’s Park Café. Open, airy and overlooking beautiful green space, this café is perfectly geared towards kids offering a child-friendly menu as well as a great selection of ice-creams, slushies and other special treats. Friendly staff don’t even bat their eyelids when faced with a mountain of mess! The best part is the two minute walk to the Nature Centre and well-equipped playground with fun for big and small kids alike.

These are just a few of the wonderful cafes that Brisbane has to offer – I’m sure you have your own favourites which cater to kids of all ages and I’d love to hear about them.

Every new parent deserves a little bit of time out…you need it! So take the plunge, pack that nappy bag, get out there and find yourself that special cup of coffee in your own child-friendly haven – you won’t be alone!
